Description
Klimt’s portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer, influenced by Egyptian art, mixes naturalism with ornamental decoration. Critics coined the phrase “Mehr Blech wie Bloch” (more brass than Bloch) for this work. The decoration creates an impression of mutilation, possibly reflecting Klimt’s psychological connection with Adele, one of his mistresses.
